Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau Coordinates Guiness World Record-breaking Event

June 21, 2018 marked National Seashell Day. In celebration, the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau coordinated the formation of the world's largest-ever human seashell, utilizing 1,093 registered participants at Outrigger Beach Resort in Fort Myers Beach.

On site was a Guinness World Records adjudicator, who verified the broken record.The previous record was 855 people via a team-building event held by petrochemical/energy company, Shell and Turcas Petrol A.S., in Turkey.

Commemorative 2018 National Seashell Day t-shirts and hats were provided to participants, as well as free water, fresh fruit, snacks, entertainment, and tent seating for shade.

According to its website, "the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau (VCB) serves the broader interests of the economy of Lee County by acting as an industry leader to market the entire area globally, facilitate travel to the area, and preserve and protect the area's unique attributes for the continual benefit of its residents and the travel and tourism industry."
