“FILL THE BRIDGE” WITH NAMI LEE, CHARLOTTE, AND HENDRY COUNTIES IN THE FIRST ANNUAL “NAMIWALKS” – SEPT. 29

Fill the Bridge Downtown, Create Awareness Surrounding Mental Health

FORT MYERS, Fla. – August 6, 2018 – NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Lee, Charlotte and Hendry counties will host its first annual 5K walk on Sept. 29, NAMIWalks Southwest Florida. The walk will begin at 7 p.m. at the City of Fort Myers Pier. The event is designed to raise awareness and funds for mental health. The fundraising goal is $75,000. Mayor Randy Henderson is serving as the honorary chairperson and local WINK-TV morning anchor, Corey Lazar, is serving as the NAMIWalks Ambassador.

Celebrating its 16th year, NAMIWalks takes place in more than 85 communities across the country to raise money for vital programs and this is the first time it will take place in Southwest Florida, specifically in Fort Myers.

“Every journey begins with that first step. Through NAMIWalks’ public, active display of support for people affected by mental illness, we are changing our American communities and ensuring that help and hope are available for those in need,” commented Vacharee Howard, NAMI Lee, Charlotte and Hendry Counties Executive Vice President.

On Saturday, Sept. 29 check-in will begin promptly at 6 p.m. and various activities for all ages will take place throughout the day, including activities for those who wish to participate, but not walk. Fundraising teams are also welcome.
