In late April, the Lee County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a 6-mile-long linear park in Lehigh Acres along the Able Canal. They accepted an agreement with the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District, according to Fox 4 News.

The park will provide access to multiple different points of interest, including other parks and buildings, among these “Harns Marsh, Lehigh Acres Park/Barbara Farrell Park, Lehigh Elementary School and Lehigh Acres Trailhead Park,” states Fox 4 News.

The Improvement District will be working closely with Lee County to develop this park that will bring ease of access as well as a great, convenient way for people to be connected to various destinations. With the addition of this new linear park, the hope is that it will decrease traffic in and around the Lehigh Acres area.

Lee County voted to contribute $2 million to this project, while the Florida Department of Transportation will contribute $4.9 million.

Although this was approved in April, Fox 4 News reports “A contract for design services for the linear park is expected to be brought before the Board in June.”

There is currently no date as to when this linear park will be ready for use.
