Fort Myers’ own version of the “Odd Couple”, Mort Goldberg and Stan Ink, spend their time helping to deliver food to those in need with Meals on Wheels.

Mort, 88, and Stan, 90, are seemingly opposites; one tall, one short, one loves to talk, while the other loves to listen.

But their similarities are what bring them together; the love of helping others, their sense of humor, being proud veterans, and living in Fort Myers for most of their lives.

Their passion for helping others, though, drives their determination to give back.

Mort and Stan spend their days delivering meals to drivers who then drop them off to the sick and homebound throughout Southwest Florida.

“They wanted to show up. And they wanted to ensure that nobody missed a meal through the entire pandemic,” states Stephanie Ink-Edwards, the CEO of Community Cooperative.

“What does an 88-year-old and a 90-year-old do but help people? That’s what we enjoy doing,” Mort said.

Meals on Wheels has delivered freshly cooked meals to those in need since 1954. To learn more about this nonprofit organization and to donate or volunteer, check out their website.
