Centennial Park located at 2000 W First Street in Fort Myers has some big changes coming its way beginning in January 2022.

With construction already underway, the park is expanding its use to include an amphitheater, a new playground, a pavilion, and new sidewalks.

This new change is expected to help the local economy greatly and is a place that families will be able to enjoy together.

Richard Moulton, Director of Public Works for Fort Myers, told WINK News, “It’s an exciting time for the city. We’re going to reopen Centennial Park with far more features for kids to play in, double the size and the square footage. We’re going to update sidewalks… we will have an amphitheater that, when fully utilized, will bring a lot of entertainment, culture, bands, orchestras to the downtown… so, you know, we’re entering some exciting times, and Centennial Park can be the catalyst for that.”

Although construction cost $5 million, millions were granted to the city with donations from businesses, including the Luminary Hotel, which has been said to have donated $350,000.

City officials and families alike are excited for this new expansion to Centennial Park, coming in just a few short months.
