Sammy Watkins, current wide receiver free agent, returned to Fort Myers for Sammy Watkins Weekend, in which he hosted a community day at Centennial Park on February 26, 2022.

Being back in his hometown is very special for him and he definitely touched the lives of many that day. Watkins wanted the kids to know that he’s a normal person, just like them. “We just rented out the park for the kids to come out here and have fun,” Watkins told News-Press. “Watkins said he wants to hold the event on an annual basis, and it’s just the start of the recent community endeavors organized by the South Fort Myers graduate.”

Watkins not only hosted this fun event, but he also talked about the opening of a D1 Training Facility called D1 Fort Myers this month. The facility will be open on March 14 and is located off Six Mile Cypress Parkway.

Although Watkins is a free agent, he’s ready to work hard in the off-season and is willing to go where winning is a motivation. His determination and willingness to give back to the community make him someone many kids look up to.
