The Wine Room was established so people would have a local place to enjoy good, quality wine. Sarah Newcomb, owner of The Wine Room, wanted to create something similar to a winery but in the downtown Fort Myers area. She explains, “I wanted a way to combine my passion for business, the community, and wine.” Although the lease was signed in 2019, due to COVID delays, The Wine Room wasn’t able to open until October 2020.

If you’re looking for a unique wine, The Wine Room probably carries it. Newcomb says “We pride ourselves in carrying wines which are not sold anywhere else downtown.” The facility is also an event venue where baby showers, comedy shows, wine pairings, dinners, birthdays, and more are frequently held. And if you’re looking to support a local business that also supports the community, The Wine Room donates 3% of its sales to local charities.

Newcomb loves interacting with customers from locals who stop in regularly to snowbirds who email with updates. Because of the community, The Wine Room is in business, and Newcomb understands this. She shares her most memorable moment while interacting with customers. “One in particular will forever have a positive impact on me. Her name was Sharon. She and her husband Mike showed up at The Wine Room during the first week we opened. They walked around making suggestions and telling me all about their lives and family. Soon after, Sharon was diagnosed with cancer…again. We cried together, but Sharon fought. She still came in and supported me while she fought the battle of her life. Sharon will forever be a part of me and a part of The Wine Room. She's a daily reminder to never give up. To never stop fighting no matter how tough things get. And most importantly, to spend time with those you love and never stop smiling.”

The Wine Room is also dedicated to supporting local small businesses. Newcomb allows local small business vendors to set up a table in the venue on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month for free. She also hosts networking groups that do not require The Wine Room to be closed to the public to use the space for free.
